Are you the subject or object of your story?
Does the narrative that runs through your head tell the story of a protagonist acting with agency? …doing the doing …taking steps. …acting the action. …leading as the subject of your story.
Or is your story happening to you? …good or bad, you are receiving the will or actions of others. Making you the passive object of “your” story.
As a woman in this world, society, and culture, it’s especially easy to feel objectified. We were raised inheriting the narrative from the cultural object’s point of view. Collectively, we are continuously fighting for agency and that can seep into our individual life perspective.
I unknowingly spent most of my life as the passive object in my own life story. I didn’t realize I was playing a victim role–living my life based on reactions to the things others were doing TO me and not responding to my life’s experiences with agency.
The “shoulds” I was raised on told me I should not make waves.
Imagine that, not making waves in your life! Not feeling the power of moving with a current, gaining force and momentum and cresting, breaking, receding and building yourself back up again.
We are meant to make waves for ourselves. Be the subject of your story.
Take the steps to write your narrative in your decisions, choices and actions.
When you discover you’re in charge, your decisions will start writing the story of the life you want to live.
